Always consult a physician before using essential oils especially if pregnant or taking prescription medications.
Aborigines used eucalyptus leaves and oil to treat sinus congestion, body pains,
colds and fever in their traditional bush medicine. In 1788 surgeons, Dennis Considen
and John White distilled eucalyptus oil to treat the ailments of convicts and marines.
The first works on the antiseptic and bacterial properties of the oil were published
in Germany by Drs. Colez (1870), Faust and Homeyer (1874). They classified it as
being sudorfic, a stimulant, anticatarrhal and astringent. It was prescribed for
all respiratory system conditions such as bronchitis, flu, asthma and coughs.
